Travel: Coachella Valley, San Joaquin Valley and Santa Clara Valley

Job Description:

The Assistant Harvest Supervisor assists in managing the fresh market tomato harvest from May through November of each year. Other duties may be available during the rest of the year. This position assists the Harvest Supervisor with managing multiple Farm Labor Contractors in multiple locations harvesting round and roma tomatoes.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure that all FLC’s and workers are properly trained in Food Safety, Heat Stress and Sexual Harassment.

  • Monitor fields and assess fields for both quantity and quality for harvest.

  • Schedule harvest (daily, weekly, 2 weeks).

  • Monitor equipment for repairs, maintenance and food safety issues.

  • Monitor FLC’s and labor performing other jobs to ensure correctness and efficiency.

  • Daily Harvest Tasks

  1. Assign FLC’s to fields for harvest

  2. Assign FLC’s to open roadways

  3. Inspect Equipment

  4. Fill out Contractor Evaluation Form

  5. Count crews and the number of people working in each crew

  6. Monitor total hours worked as well as NPT and RRT to assure compliance with existing regulations

  • Ensures sufficient trucks are available daily.

  • Monitors field and bathrooms for cleanliness.

  • Monitors and enforces food safety guidelines.

  • Monitors and enforces heat stress guidelines.

  • Monitors and enforces sexual harassment guidelines.

  • Ensures buckets are cleaned daily.

  • Estimates loads to harvest in each field daily and in total.

  • Ensures quality is controlled.

  • Ensures tractors are driven safely.

  • Ensures cars and vans are parked as far away from the road as possible.

  • Ensures all workers have plenty of shade and water.

  • Ensures that food trucks have been inspected and are keeping the field clean.

  • Ensure that all fields are posted with “No Trespassing” signs.

  • Other Duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent field experience

  • Bilingual Spanish/English

  • Ability to read and write in English.

Work Environment:

The associate is required to stand, walk and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands; stoop, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear. The associate is occasionally required to climb or balance. The associate may regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level and working conditions are usually at a moderate level.  The associate is occasionally exposed to hot, cold, wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme heat or cold.
