JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

The job of the Account Manager, Domestic Sales was established for the purpose/s of selling fresh citrus to retail, wholesale and food service customers.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

  • Contacts and sells to customers using pricing guidelines on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for handling all day-to-day business transactions.
  • Works closely with other account managers and strategic account managers.
  • Handles customer claims on fruit shipments and negotiates settlements.
  • Provides pricing, market conditions and crop conditions to customers.
  • Makes sales calls and presentations to assigned customers.
  • Responsible for order processing, providing ad lid and daily pricing, mediating shipping point and arrival issues, and coordinating transportation needs, where required, for assigned retail, wholesale and/or foodservice customer accounts.
  • Secures Sunkist citrus products from member packing associations using pricing guidelines obtained from the varietal desk.
  • Makes sales visits on assigned customers to discuss promotional activities, distribute samples of new citrus varieties and packs, inspect products, and to promote Sunkist citrus products.
  • Resolves credit and collection issues with assigned customers.
  • Analyzes both customer specific and market sales data to optimize sales strategies.
  • Required to travel domestically to customer sites, sales meetings and food shows.
  • Regular and timely attendance.
  • Accomplishes department and organization goals by completing related tasks as needed.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
  • Routine emailing and communication with customers regarding invoicing, questions, or pricing.
  • Maintains customer files.
  • Maintains a neat work area.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and personal conduct at all times.
  • Attends meetings as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Certifications/Licenses, Experiences, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Bachelor Degree in Agriculture, Business, Marketing or a related field or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years’ selling experience in a sales environment or work experience related to fresh fruit sales and marketing at a level and of a duration that will enable the employee to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to learn and understand produce market conditions.
  • Must possess a valid unrestricted driver’s license and have reliable means of transportation.
  • Skilled at negotiation and highly adept at using persuasion skills to sell product.
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate both verbally and written with internal and external customers.
  • Skilled at thinking creatively or “outside the box.”
  • The ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion within standard accepted practices.
  • Ability to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percent’s and/or ratios.
  • Strong computer skills: must be proficient in MS Office, Word, Excel and Outlook; ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Must be detail oriented; work in a fast-paced environment with high ability to multitask.
  • Skilled at adapting to changing priorities, work environments, management styles and business trends.
  • Ability to acquire and apply new knowledge or skills for work and recognize own strengths and weaknesses.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (List not all inclusive)

Measurements: 67-100% of time = Continuously, 45-66% of time = Frequently, 66% of time = Occasionally

Continuously:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential functions consistent with Sunkist standards, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with Sunkist standard, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Must be able to: talk, listen and speak effectively on telephone; read, write and understand written documents and policy; sit for sustained periods of time.

Frequently:

  • Ability to type or otherwise work primarily with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm.
  • Must be able to spend extended period of time sitting, viewing computer screen and/or operating a keyboard.
  • Will need to move from workstation to various printers, scanners, etc. in order to handle business documents.
  • Will need to type, key, grasp, twist, turn, reach, kneel, squat, stand, bend and stoop during a regular work day.

Occasionally:

  • Moderate Carrying – must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to travel domestically by automobile, train, or airplane.

EQUIPMENT USED FOR THIS POSITION

  • Normal office equipment such as printers, scanners, fax machines, computer and keyboard.
  • May be responsible for company provided cell phone and laptop.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have the ability to:

  • Understand, remember, and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information.
  • Understand opposing points of view on complex issues and to negotiate and integrate different points of view.
  • Organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology.
  • Make decisions, which have moderate impact on department.

  • Compose letters, outlines, memoranda, and basic reports and/or to orally communicate technical information.
  • Capable of adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing and to record, balance, and check results for accuracy.
  • Make quick decisions that affect customers and departments.
  • Interact with persons of diverse backgrounds and educational levels.
  • Work with changing deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Understand business math in calculating profit/loss, percent change, cost, etc.
  • Learn as special training and education is required in how to use the order entry system, understanding the business model, learning about various markets, and weekly quote procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Works mainly in an office environment subject to continuous interruptions and mild to moderate background noises.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • Work may include extended periods of time viewing a computer monitor and operating a keyboard.
  • Works an 8-hour workday Monday through Friday in the Pittsburgh office, however, may work overtime as needed. Telecommuting is not an option at this time.
