A well-established produce import company is looking for a

Sales Manager to oversee our Account Managers, Sales Team and growing customer base. The right person must have BA/BS Degree in Agriculture, Business, Marketing and a minimum of 10 years’ combined managing and selling experience with sales of fresh fruit (preferably: grapes, stonefruit, cherries, apples, pears, citrus, kiwi and blueberries). This individual would bring current produce business relationships within retail and wholesale markets in addition to aggressively expanding our growing customer base.


  • Oversee the Account Managers and Sales Team to ensure the development of the sales plan, establish and manage existing and new customer growth.
  • Ensure each customer receives our outstanding customer service.
  • Communicate with customers negotiating commodities, pricing, pickup and delivery schedules.
  • Responsible for maintaining and creating new business opportunities.
  • Solid produce background and knowledge of Chilean, Peruvian, Argentine and New Zealand growing regions, quality characteristics and issues, shelf life, shipping and handling characteristics and packing styles.
  • Manage all day-to-day business transactions.
  • Optimize our sales strategies by analyzing customer specifics and market sales data.
  • Schedule and meet with customers to discuss our promotions, provide samples, packaging options to overall promote all our products.
  • Collaborate with staff to expedite sales commitments, resolve final pricing issues and related customer accounting problems in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for order processing, pricing, mediating shipping arrival issues and coordinating transportation needs for assigned customers.
  • Understanding of PACA regulations, process and dispute resolution.
  • Experienced customer EDI, iTrade, Foodlink and inventory control systems preferred.
  • Maintain routine calls and correspondence with assigned customers and potential new customers.
  • Monitor competition utilizing marketplace information on products, pricing and delivery.
  • Inform management with activity reports to include: history of daily sales calls, cold calls and weekly/monthly work plans.
  • Provide pricing, marketing information and crop conditions to management, sales team and customers.
  • Occasional travel to trade shows and visit customers.
  • Work as part of a team and effectively communicate with all departments (Warehouse, Accounting, Quality Control and Transportation).


  •  Must possess a valid unrestricted driver’s license and have reliable means of transportation.
  •  Should have or can easily apply for a passport for possible travel requirements.
  •  Highly skilled at negotiation and using persuasion skills to aggressively sell our products.
  •  Must be detail oriented; work in a fast-paced environment with ability to multitask.
  •  Strong computer skills: must be proficient in MS Office, Word, Excel and Outlook; with ability to operate standard office equipment.
  •  Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate both verbally and written with internal and external customers.
  •  Maintain an overall professional appearance and conduct while at work and at company related functions.
  •  Maintain good judgement and decisions to impact on company.
  •  Able to make quick decisions, work independently and as a team member, interact with all types persons of diverse backgrounds and educational levels.


  •  Must be able to spend extended period of time sitting, viewing computer screen and/or operating a keyboard.
  •  Working an 8-hour day Monday-Friday in an office environment, however, the position may require overtime when needed. Saturday hours are required at some periods during the season. Telecommuting is not an option at this time.
  •  Works mainly in an office environment subject to continuous interruptions and moderate background noises.
  •  Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  •  Ability to travel during the week and/or weekends by car, airplane or train.
