Food Safety and Social Responsibility Compliance Specialist

A leader in the organic produce industry is looking for someone with international Food Safety and Social Responsibility Compliance experience.

Description: The primary roles of this position are to verify information related to Social Responsibility standards and regulatory food safety requirements as well as handle customers’ requests for audits. The position requires project management skills, strong documentation skills, and interpersonal skills. The person must be self-directed andprioritize needs of the business. The person will be leading all the Food Safety and Social Responsibility Compliance programs and will be working with team members in every department.


  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and customers’ requirements
  • Answer after hours calls and emails as neede
  • Ensure that all domestic storage and warehouses are USDA NOP compliant
  • Maintain master file of food safety documents for growers, packing houses, and warehouses and ensure all suppliers’ certificates and audits are current
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to food safety growers and share best practices
  • Act as the liaison between customers, suppliers, and employees to meet the special requests of customers as they relate to social responsibility, food safety and/or organic certification

Skill requirements:

  • Relevant experience in GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) standards (Global GAP, Primus GFS, SQF or BRC)

  • Working knowledge of USDA National Organic Programguidance and instructions

  • Ability to develop and support traceability and recall programs

  • Have working knowledge of The Food Safety Modernization Act’s Produce Safety Rule, FSVP, and/or Preventive Control Rule

  • Basic understanding of cGMP (Good Manufacturing Processes) and GAP (Good Agricultural Processes)

  • Basic understanding of fresh produce packing house operations and post-harvest practices

  • Associate (or higher) degree in a technical discipline preferred

  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate with suppliers in different countries, time zones, and languages
  • Ability to travel internationally


  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret food safety and social responsibility documents in Spanish
  • Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers
  • Ability to communicate and effectively present information with management and other stakeholders
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Ability to calculate rate, ration and percent
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of information and deal with several abstract and concrete variables

Preferred Skills

  • Minimum 7 to 10 years of management experience

  • In-depth knowledge of food safety principles and technical tools

  • Formal training in quality, planning tools, and analysis

  • Completion of one of the following FDA recognized classes: Produce Safety Alliance, Preventive Control for Human Food, or FSVP

  • Ability to prepare for and participate in annual on-site responsible sourcing / social accountability audits and resolve any corrective actions immediately
