Job description


This position is responsible for the day-to-day, accounting operations of the assigned business unit, including the production of periodic financial reports, financial analysis, and the maintenance of the system of accounting records and internal controls. The Controller supervises cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial reporting functions and is responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all general ledger accounts.



  • Responsible for short monthly cycle close process
  • Responsible for the correct accounting of development and farming operations
  • Responsible for preparation of weekly, monthly and quarterly financial and operational reporting
  • Responsible for maintenance and monitoring of inventory systems and inventory valuation
  • Collaborate with business unit leadership and Board for development of yearly operational and capital budget
  • Develop business driver metrics and key performance indicators
  • Identify, evaluate and lead key initiatives such as business process redesign, cost savings initiatives and system development projects
  • Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the department's goals and objectives
  • Assess, improve and maintain a strong internal control structure
  • Serve as the key contact for audits, prepare audit schedules, and drive successful outcomes for all audits
  • Review or complete general ledger reconciliations
  • Prepare or review statutory filings to local, state and federal agencies timely and accurately
  • Adhere to US GAAP and internal policy
  • Maintain a comprehensive set of accounting policies and procedures
  • Other duties as required


Recommended Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Accounting/Finance required; MBA and/or CPA candidates preferred
  • 7 years accounting experience in a fast-paced environment with progressive advancement
  • Experience in farm related accounting is required
  • Strong cost accounting background preferred
  • Costing and Inventory Valuation experience, required
  • Superior demonstrated PC skills (Excel, Access) is a must
  • Strong ERP software experience required (Sage, JD Edwards, SAP, Oracle, etc.)
  • Previous financial or analytical experience, preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Self-starter: ability to learn the operational aspect of a new business at a fast pace
  • Ability to deep-dive into detail, while maintaining a clear vision of strategic goals and big picture
  • Acute deadline awareness and ability to deliver quality work products scaled to fit a fixed timeline
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%
