Position: General Manager of Tanimura & Antle’s New PlantTape Nursery

Reports to: Chief Agricultural Officer, Director of Farm Support Services

Works with: T&A Production Directors, T&A Growers, T&A Farm Support Operations, T&A Seed Department, T&A Agronomist, Plant Tape USA

Direct Reports: Head Grower, Transportation Lead, Irrigation Lead, Pest Application Lead, Sewing Line Lead, Facilities Lead

Location: Hollister, California

Date of Opening: Immediately

General Description:

Tanimura and Antle is seeking a highly skilled, motivated, and forward thinking individual to manage the daily operations at our New & Innovative Vegetable Transplant Nursery. This nursery will specialize in growing vegetable transplants for the Plant Tape Transplant System. Because this is a completely new operation, the individual chosen his will be responsible for helping plan, develop, and build the New Nursery including all future expansion planned for 2019, 2020 & beyond. This position will also help develop standard operating procedures, growing practices, and safety procedures pertaining to all aspects of Plant Tape vegetable transplant raising. The development process of the property is currently underway with a target opening of the first quarter 2019.

The primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

 Scheduling Sowing

o Work with regional Production Directors to create sowing schedules

 Develop protocols and implement programs to simplify the scheduling process

 Create checks and balances to ensure schedules are always current and on track to hit the target sew and wet dates

 Work with seed department to ensure all seed is available and ready for sowing.

 Oversee sowing operations for all Tanimura and Antle’s Plant Tape needs. Expect six lines to be fully functional by 2020.

 Responsible for scheduling and sowing all product that will then be grown by outside nursery operations

 Growing

o Work with lead grower to develop environmental, nutrient, and irrigation management plans specific to the different commodities produced at the new nursery

o Work with lead grower to ensure irrigation and pest application leads are implementing the programs as developed


o Find or develop a nursery program that can

 Identify plantings by work order number

 Locate the planting in the facility

 Track and log all activity associated with that planting while in residence

 Transportation

o Work with transportation lead to develop shipping protocols and methods to ensure plants are delivered on time and to the desired location

o Schedule deliveries and shipments of raw materials as well as sewn product to outside nursery locations

 Facilities

o Work with facilities lead to ensure the greenhouse and all of its functioning parts remain

 Fully operational

 Sanitary per food safety guidelines

 Budgets

o Work with production analyst to develop a working budget for the operation

 Human Resources

o Work with T&A Human Resource Department to ensure all employees receive all necessary trainings prior to commencing work and annually thereafter

 R&D

o Work on trials with T&A Agronomist to continue to develop and implement protocols, practices, and methods to produce the best transplant possible

 Future Development

Education and/or Experience:

 Bachelor’s Degree in Horticultural and Crop Science or other Agricultural related field

 5 years experience working at a plant raising nursery

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to managers and other employees of the operation.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

 Should have a current driver's license

 QAL, QAC, or PAC required to obtain the facilities restricted materials permit
