Job description

California Giant Inc, a large Berry Company has an immediate opening for a hard-working, reliable, self-motivated Systems Coordinator to work on packaging development projects to enhance our Berry Traceability through varies systems.

Primary responsibility to fulfill company mandates with respect to the Produce Traceability Initiative (PTI), Item Level Traceability, and Security of packaging including On-line Marking and Sealing under direction of Operations Manager and Inventory Manager.

Will work with Operations Manager and Inventory Manager on packaging development projects and response to customer requests. Responsible for label regulatory compliance. Participate in evaluation of new styles and items and any cooling testing or cold chain analysis. Work as part of buying group.

Responsible for all packaging-oriented activities in the field; testing new products, testing for development, introductions, and customer initiatives. Participate in crate shed issues requiring attendance on site.


Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Responsible for execution of Produce Traceability Initiative (PTI) for the company at direction of Operations Manager.

    • Establish and maintain Electronic case level Traceability standards (GTIN’s).

    • Create and maintain coding and application systems.

    • Coordinate movement and placement of necessary equipment and supplies.

    • Ensure functionality and universal execution of PTI standard.

  • Responsible for execution of Item Level Traceability at direction of Operations Manager.

    • Ensure accurate, universal execution of FoodLink Item Trace for scannable traceback system, including original manufacturing of materials, distribution systems to maintainintegrity of information and error checking, testing and resolution.

    • Represent company in creation and coordination of software necessary to carry out scannable traceback system, including marking, coding, testing and auditing.

    • Ensure accurate, universal execution of marking systems for non-scannable traceback systems (direct marking of clamshells with trace info).

    • Research, recommend and acquire equipment necessary to implement.    

    • Ensure universal implementation of marking for all products packed for company.

    • Requires extensive presence in field, shed and packing house operations.

  • Coordinate security sealing systems (secondary closures) as requirement.

    • Research, recommend and acquire equipment necessary to implement.

    • Ensure universal implementation of marking for all product packed for company.

    • Requires extensive presence in field shed and packing house operations.

  • Travel to all necessary districts to test and evaluate packaging items in the field.

  • Participate in all field level customer initiatives involving packaging.

  • Participate in field level vendor visits or initiatives.

  • Visit Crate Sheds and/or packing facilities as necessary to carry out Operations Department function on site.

  • Responsible for testing and development of new packaging products/style, no matter the initiation (customer, vendor or company). Evaluate and test packaging products for size, appropriateness, impact on fruit, cooling effectiveness, etc., etc.

  • Participate in any cooling test or cold chain testing that the Company gets involved in.

  • Direct and approve art and structural development of packaging and labeling.

  • Regular attendance is an essential part of this position.



  • BS Degree in Agricultural or Industrial fields preferred or degree in another area appropriate to this position.
  • 3 to 5 years related work experience preferred, would waive for recent graduate in appropriate discipline.

  • Computer literate, include managing multiple device types and operating systems.

  • Detail-oriented.

  • Must be able and willing to travel extensively.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Bilingual is strong preference.


Physical Requirements

  • Must be physically capable of driving for long hours in a car.
  • Must be physically capable of moving, lifting boxes of clam shells per job responsibilities outlined above.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of __40 ________lbs.
