Summary

West Coast Berry Farms, LLC is seeking an experienced Human Resources Director to partner with our management team to support our growing business. Located in Oxnard, California, this position is responsible for managing the planning, further development, implementation and administration of employment policies and human resources activities of the Company. The ideal candidate will have five to ten years’ experience in an HR role and experience in the agricultural industry. The Human Resources Director leads and makes recommendations on labor and employee relations, health and safety, employee training and development, and ensures compliance with all federal and state laws. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviews and makes recommendations to executive management for improvement of the organization's policies, procedures and practices on personnel matters.
  • Supports and develops and employee-oriented culture.

  • Maintains knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation and ensures organization's compliance.

  • Works directly with department managers to assist them in carrying out their responsibilities on personnel matters.

  • Maintains responsibility for organization compliance with federal, state and local legislation pertaining to all personnel matters.

  • Lead person on matters involving OSHA, EEOC, Federal immigration agencies, the US Department of Labor and any other regulatory agency.

  • Effectively manage the hiring, training and development of employees.

  • Guide, train and advise company supervisors and managers in recognizing employee and employer rights and responsibilities and in establishing and maintaining positive employee relations.

  • Communicates changes in the organization's personnel policies and procedures and ensures that proper compliance is followed.

  • Provide safety leadership and inspire a safety culture that creates a safe work environment.

  • Manage comprehensive and compliant employee safety-training program that relates to our operation.

  • Assists executive management in the annual review, preparation and administration of the organization's wage and salary program.

  • Works closely with payroll department to ensure compensation and benefit plans are properly administered.

  • Coordinates or conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.

  • Consults with legal counsel as appropriate, or as directed by the CEO, on personnel matters.

  • Recommends evaluates and participates in staff development for the organization.

  • Develops and maintains a human resource information system that meets the organization's personnel information needs.

  • Supervises the staff of the human resource department.

  • Develops organization strategies by identifying and researching human resources issues; contributing information, analysis, and recommendations to organization strategic thinking and direction; establishing human resources objectives in line with organizational objectives.

  • Implements human resources strategies by establishing department accountabilities, including talent acquisition, staffing, employment processing, compensation, health and welfare benefits, training and development, records management, safety and health, succession planning, employee relations and retention, AA/EEO compliance, and labor relations.

  • Develops human resources operations financial strategies by estimating, forecasting, and anticipating requirements, trends, and variances; aligning monetary resources; developing action plans; measuring and analyzing results; initiating corrective actions; minimizing the impact of variances.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and five to ten years' related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience,

  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) credential preferred,

  • Human resources management experience in the agricultural industry strongly preferred,

  • Must possess solid knowledge on employee rights and employer responsibilities arising under federal and state laws, including the National Labor Relations Act, the California Agricultural Labor Relations Act, California Wage and Hour Law, and any other laws that regulate or affect employers in Agricultural industry,

  • Ensure compliance with laws, state or federal, pertaining to farm labor contractors, and provides any necessary assistance to comply,

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data including presentations to management,

  • Technology savvy with fluency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills,

  • Commitment to recruiting, mentoring, training, and retaining a diverse team,

  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and responsibility,

  • Bi-lingual in English/Spanish is preferred and prior experience working with a bilingual, bi-cultural workforce is essential,

  • Occasional travel to our Santa Maria and Salinas locations
