Job description

The Facilities Manager is a critical member of the management team. He or she is expected to be an active and pro-active leader and communicator with an emphasis on building and supervising an effective and motivated crew. Facilities Manager must be approachable, observant, respectful, and easy to work with while building and maintaining a top-tier agricultural facility.

 Responsibilities:

  • Preventive maintenance program.
  • All growing areas, structures, vehicles, and equipment repairs.
  • Evaluation and management of outside contractors for repairs and construction projects.
  • Management and supervision of in-house maintenance/construction personnel.
  • Planning for new property layout, equipment installation, and excavation/leveling as needed.
  • Communication and effective reporting of project status and planning with upper management, peer level personnel, and maintenance crew.
  • Recommendation of capital expenditures as related to facilities.
  • Budgeting and planning for facilities on all properties.
  • Other areas of responsibilities may be added by management as needed.

Tasks:

  • Establish and implement a written preventive maintenance program for all growing areas, offices, outbuildings, and equipment.
  • Coordinate all nursery and growing area repairs and monitor performance
  • Maintain adequate parts inventory and order items as necessary to avoid work stoppage, unnecessary cost, and crop loss.
  • Provide multiple bids and cost analysis for in/outsourcing of capex or repairs to facilities.
  • Oversee and supervise team of maintenance workers to the degree that they are informed appropriately about relevant issues, feel listened to, work together as an effective team, and conduct their work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for all personnel from the maintenance/construction crews. Recommend wage increases or progressive disciplinary actions as required.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records on all facilities.
  • Work closely with the General Manager, Production Manager, and Grower to coordinate repairs with a minimum of disruption and cost.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and security protocols.
  • Hold regular meetings with management and maintenance personnel to ensure full, frequent, and open communication on projects, plans, and daily facility’s needs.
  • Submit budgets and other financial or work reports as requested by management and ownership.
  • Actively participate in the management team by attending meetings, helping with problems in all areas of the company, open communication, and bringing relevant issues to the team for support.
  • Be promptly available or have a delegate available by phone and email at all times during normal work hours as well as after normal work hours in the event of a facilities problem.
  • Set up and propose an emergency preparedness plan to minimize crop and facilities loss in the event of a fire, earthquake, water supply disruption, or other disaster that could impact our crops, facilities, or personnel.
  • Propose labor or material saving tools or equipment for fabrication or purchase.
  • Meet with new or existing companies as needed for sourcing or investigating new equipment, repairs, or services.

 Qualifications:

  • Supervisory experience - 5 years minimum.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to create and follow budgets
  • Full understanding of farm equipment, well and irrigation systems, ag refrigeration, structure maintenance, and machinery in an ag environment.
