Job description

Responsible for growing an economical viable crop of proprietary raspberries in soilless (substrate) under hoops that includes managing a budget and overseeing all day to day operations from substrate preparation through harvest using technically informed decision-making to maximize crop yield in both conventional and organic production systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage substrate growing operations and farming activities in both conventional and organic production.
  • Pre-season planning, land preparation, orders, planting, establishment, daily crop management, harvest, and of the season activities & crop termination.
  • Irrigation System Management – Installation, daily irrigation programing and activities using an injection system.
  • Nutrition Program Management – Fertilization & record-keeping, tissue sampling and data collection.
  • Pest Issues Management – Make keen observations of pest issues.
  • Compliance (Company policies, food safety programs and Federal and State Law).
  • Data Management & Reporting – Ensure that all information is tracked and reported in a timely manner and format.
  • Operational Budget – Manage cost with vendors and services.
  • Harvest Quality & Efficiency – Support personnel to maximize harvest efficiency and fruit quality.
  • Research & Development Support – Work collaboratively with members of the EBF & Naturipe teams to improve overall development of the production system.

Qualifications and Skill Required

  • AA or BS in a field relevant to agricultural production (crop science, agronomy, horticulture, soil science) or equivalent in applied experience in agricultural production.
  • Knowledge of berry or soilless media production or 3 or more years’ experience in growing and managing commercially produced crops for profit.
  • Proficient in field data collection, entry, processing and communication of findings.
  • Ability to make technical decisions based on data findings.
  • Strong organizational, writing, analytical and communication skills.
  • Bilingual and biliterate (Spanish and English)
  • Competency using a computer to prepare reports and presentations.
  • Be able to work independently and proactively.
