Job Description:

Coordinate Food Safety & Industrial Safety Training of harvest crews, ranch employees and facility employees.  Assist Food Safety Director & Coordinator in field operations.  Preform accident investigations on all worker’s compensation claims and near misses.

Farm & Harvesting Responsibilities:

  • Record and file all Food safety & industrial safety related documents for farm and harvesting crews.
  • Monitor GAP/GHP activities on the farm, and correct deficiencies.
  • Conduct pre-plant and pre-harvest assessments as needed.
  • Perform safety trainings on various Food Safety Programs and OHSA standards, including but not limited to Good Agricultural Practices, Good Manufacturing Practices, Proper Hand washing, Forklift training, back safety, electrical safety, machine guarding, ear protection etc. – help maintain/update current training programs.
  • Update and Maintain training records for the farm, facilities and harvest operations.
  • Maintain and update SDSs for locations.
  • At times sample product, water and soil.
  • Conduct Environmental swabbing.
  • Perform monthly self-inspections of ranches, harvest crews for the food safety and industrial safety program. Document and coordinate implementation of all needed corrective actions from inspections and audit findings.
  • Take an active role in Safety Committee meeting coordination and follow up.
  • Fully responsible for all WPS training for farm pesticide handlers and workers as well as Pesticide on-site compliance.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources, Supervisors and Industrial Safety teams on accident investigations and response.
  • Coordinate transportation of and/or accompany injured employees to the first doctors visit.
  • Safety Programs include but not limited to:
    • Electrical Safety
    • LOTO
    • Machine Guarding
    • Fall Prevention Plan
    • Heat Stress Program
    • Field Sanitation Procedure Updates & Implementation
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, college degree is a plus.
  • 2+ years of experience, or equivalent education.
  • Excellent organization, record-keeping, communication and general computer skills are essential to excel in this position.  Must be have expert knowledge of Word and Excel.
  • Self-starter who is motivated to succeed and develop safety program.
  • Ability to act in a self-confident manner to facilitate completion of a work assignment or to defend a position or idea.
  • Ability to make decisions or take actions to solve a problem or reach a goal.
  • Completed recent safety training in HACCP standards, GAPs, Produce Safety Rule, WPS, and OSHA standards is preferred but not required.
  • Must be bilingual - English/Spanish.
  • Clean driving record and ability to work weekends during busy harvest season as needed.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up-to 50 pounds.
